Biotech: The biotech sector in the Czech Republic builds on a century-old industrial tradition, with pharmaceuticals being manufactured in Prague on an industrial scale for over 100 years, and combines that with a cutting-edge scientific inquiry supported by a robust network of over 400 companies and research institutes, a specialized talent pipeline of 12,000 students in life sciences, and a growing venture capital landscape. What makes the Czech Republic particularly attractive is its concentration of talent and output, with more than 50% of top-quality publications produced in collaboration with partners in the United States, Germany, and the United Kingdom. The country generates a high density of high-impact scientific research relative to its size. Advanced manufacturing: The Czech Republic is a European leader in advanced manufacturing, combining a long-standing engineering tradition with cutting-edge innovation. Manufacturing contributes to more than 25% of the country’s gross value added, one of the highest shares in Europe, and high-tech products already make up over 20% of Czech exports. The Czech Republic also ranks 8th globally in Harvard’s Economic Complexity Index, underlining the sophistication and diversity of its industrial base. That is supported with a rapid expansion of AI adoption in the Czech Republic, with Czech startups outpacing their European counterparts with AI innovation. South Moravian Region: The South Moravian Region has emerged as one of the leading European innovation hubs. A global leader in electron microscopy, with one-third of the world's electron microscopes coming from Brno, Brno region excels also in the semiconductor, space, cybersecurity, and game development sectors. Leading the Czech Republic in knowledge intensity and high-tech employment, Brno region matches Europe's top regions. The share of expenditures on science and research relative to regional GDP, at 3.1%, is not only the highest in the Czech Republic over the long term but also reaches the level of knowledge intensity of leading European regions, especially in Germany, Austria, Belgium, or Sweden.
