About

Artificial intelligence is rapidly transforming how we work, learn, create, and participate in society. But many communities are still being asked to adapt to systems they did not help design. Building Our Future in AI: Power, Inclusion, and What Comes Next is an Alianza Latina event during Toronto Tech Week 2026 that brings together community members, technologists, founders, students, researchers, nonprofit leaders, and ecosystem builders for an evening focused on inclusion, responsible AI, and community empowerment. This event is rooted in a simple but urgent question: how do we ensure the future of AI is not shaped without us? Through dialogue, reflection, and project visibility, we will explore both how AI is already affecting our lives through shifts in work, access, power, and inequality, and how our communities can become more active participants in shaping what comes next. The evening will also build on Alianza Latina’s recent momentum in AI community-building by creating space to spotlight projects and ideas emerging from earlier community activations and hackathon efforts. Rather than treating inclusion as a side conversation, this event places representation, belonging, and community power at the center of the future of AI. What to expect A featured conversation or panel on responsible AI, inclusion, and the future of technology Reflections on how AI is affecting communities, work, and opportunity A curated showcase of community-rooted projects and ideas Networking with leaders across tech, civil society, education, and community spaces Space to connect around mentorship, collaboration, and future possibilities Themes Responsible AI and public understanding Inclusion, access, and belonging The future of work and social impact Community-built innovation From visibility to opportunity Who should attend This event is for: Latino professionals, students, founders, and community members interested in AI and tech Allies and cross-sector partners Civil society and nonprofit leaders Technologists and ecosystem builders Researchers, educators, and public-interest leaders Mentors, funders, accelerators, and industry representatives interested in more inclusive innovation Why this event matters Toronto Tech Week is one of the city’s most important convening spaces for innovation, startups, investment, and emerging technology. This event creates space for a broader and more grounded conversation about who gets to participate in shaping the future of AI, whose realities are reflected in the systems being built, and what more inclusive pathways to innovation can look like in practice.
